This is displayed in the lobby of the San Carlos Hotel. Some of the names I could read are Lefty Gomez, Francis X Bushman Jr,, Norman Kerry, Ken Maynard, Harry Carey, Marion Nixon, Basil Rathbone, Ray Milland, Ramon Novarro, Myrna Loy, Ty Cobb, Jim Thorpe, Jack Dempsey, Pop Warner, Boris Karloff, Cary Grant, Marjorie Rambeau, Wally Ford, June MacCloy, Walt Coburn, Melvyn Douglas, and Spencer Tracy.
I struck up a conversation with a couple guys outside the San Carlos Hotel, a residential establishment that used to be much grander than its present incarnation. One of the guys is the manager who told me a tale of the San Carlos being the playground of Hollywood stars in the twenties and thirties. He took me into the lobby to examine a framed sheet of paper that bears some illustrious names.
