Two Guns, Arizona is east of Flagstaff in a horseshoe bend of Diablo Canyon. Billy the Kid and his gang once hid here on the west rim of the canyon. And the loot from a 19th century train robbery is supposedly buried here. It was also the site of a lawless settlement of railroad construction workers. In 1878 a group of Navajo massacred 42 Apaches who were hiding in a cave here. The cave has since collapsed, but in 1925 an effort was made to establish a tourist attraction supplanting a store and gas station. The tourist attraction was a on again, off again flirtation with failure until 1971.
