Donald “Don” C. Trocinski, 87, of Holmen passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, surrouned by his family at his home after a bought with cancer.
He was born July 9, 1923, in La Moille, Minn., to Bert and Maud (Snider) Trocinski, Sr. Don was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Sergeant during World War II beginning March 17, 1943, working as an engineer in both Europe and the Pacific until he was honorably discharged March 17, 1946. On Nov. 12, 1946, he married Irene Manske at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. On March 2, 1947, they moved to their farm in Long Coulee where they lived and farmed until their retirement. The Lord blessed Don and Irene with four wonderful children. He was very proud of his farm in Long Coulee and his herd of Over-View Registered Holsteins. Don loved working on the land, watching the seeds grow and helping his son, Todd who has now taken over the farm. Don was the Town of Holland Chairman for 16 years, served on the Board of Directors as president for Farmers Co-op in Mindoro for 27 years, was a member of La Crosse Chamber of Commerce, F.F.A, A.M.P.I, Swiss Valley Farmers Co-op and was dairy leader for Long Coulee 4-H for over 25 years. He also was a member of Morris-Snuggerud American Legion Post 284 of Holmen for over 60 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Irene; four children, Connie (William) Lewis of West Salem, Rodney (Patricia) Trocinski of Austin, Minn., Lynette (Kenneth) Berg of Barre Mills, and Todd (Andrea) Trocinski of Holmen; 14 grandchildren, Heather (Cade) Brandau of West Salem, Chad Lewis (Fiancee, Tammy Ferguson) of Rockland, Tami Harr of West Salem, Brendan (Rachel) Trocinski, Heather Trocinski, and twins, Trevor and Tyler Trocinski, all of Austin, Minn., Tracey (Lee) Heath of Barre Mills, Travis Berg of Milwaukee, Tanya Berg of Barre Mills, and Christopher, Nickolas, Grace and Nathaniel Trocinski, all of Holmen; eight great-grandchildren, Brianna, Mayzee, Dakota, Madalyn, Hayden, Hunter, Alexis, Bradley and number nine on the way; four sisters, Violet (Albert) Kunert of La Crosse, Mildred Larson of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Ardis Jorgenson of Sparta, and Faye (Charlie) Harris of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Bert Trocinski, Jr., of Holmen, and Lowell (Bonnie) Trocinski of La Crosse; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers, Virgil and Victor Trocinski; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Trocinski and Ardith Trocinski; and two brothers-in-law, Alfred Jorgenson and Anton Larson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave., S., La Crosse. Rev. Roger Sachs will officiate. Burial will be in Long Coulee Cemetery with Rev. Shaun Arndt officiating. Military rites will be rendered in the cemetery by American Legion Post 284 of Holmen and United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home-Jostad Chapel, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holmen, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank Dr. D. Ohlrogge and Hospice Nursing staff at Franciscan Skemp Health Care for their care and comfort in the final weeks of Don’s life.
